RESTORATION

Restoration is restoring brick, cement, block and/or stone to its original appearance and qualities which has deteriorated due to the elements, especially on historically significant structures. Some of the equipment used for restoration includes scaffolding, staging and grinders. Restoration is considered an art and requires a great deal of skill and knowledge in order to not compromise the integrity of the building, which DH RESTORATION, INC. prides itself on. Restoration is labor-intensive which may encompass:

1. Tuckpointing – the removal and replacement of the mortar in between the brick or block. Tuckpointing is an effective way of decreasing water entry into buildings.

2.  Brick, block and/or cement/stone replacement – removal and replacement of  is especially challenging due to the different type of bricks, cement, stone, block and mortar used through the years.

3.  Limestone and masonry cleaning – removal of carbon deposits from the building which enhances its appearance.

WATERPROOFING

Waterproofing seals and protects a building from water infiltration. Waterproofing will work only if the building has been built correctly and the correct waterproofing material is chosen and applied properly. There are a variety of ways to apply different types of waterproofing and water repellents with each manufacturer having stringent application instructions, which must be followed carefully. Fluid sealants are often applied using a sprayer, whereas bentonite waterproofing is applied by hand. DH RESTORATION, INC. specializes in below-grade waterproofing and above-grade water repellents.

CAULKING

Caulk allows a building to have minor movement without allowing moisture to penetrate the structure. Caulk is applied with a hand-operated caulking gun and finished by tooling the joint. Tooling techniques vary from dry, finger and brush tooling. Control joints, window and door perimeters, sidewalks and parking garages are just some of the areas that need to be caulked. Since joint failure may result if the caulk is improperly applied, employees need to understand the significance of the work being done. Because of the importance of these applications, caulking needs to be done by a professional such as DH RESTORATION, INC. Money spent on caulking is money well spent. DH RESTORATION, INC. also has a great deal of experience applying sanitary sealants in restaurants, hospitals, etc. and security sealants used in prisons and containment facilities.
